Reasons to use Whalebuy, limits to know, and why this catalog exists

What every agent does anyway, what Whalebuy publishes that you can hold it to, and the cases where another agent fits better.

Why Whalebuy: start from what every agent shares

Start with what is not special. Every shopping agent that serves Taobao, 1688 and Weidian buyers does the same core loop: buy from the store, receive in China, photograph, store for a while, ship abroad on a line you choose. Every one of them charges for freight, every one depends on third-party carriers, and none can promise what a store will send. If a page tells you an agent is different because it "checks quality" or "ships worldwide", that is the baseline, not a reason.

So the useful question is narrower: which rules, prices and tools does Whalebuy publish that you can hold it to, and where is its record thin? The card below sorts what we found into those piles.

What Whalebuy does differently, on the record

A fee formula you can check. Whalebuy's Service and Fees page defines the total as item cost plus international freight plus the customs declaration fee, generally ¥8 per parcel, with no separate purchasing service fee. A newer Charges page adds that a service fee "may be charged" for optional services and will be shown before payment; read that as a footnote about extras, not a hidden commission, but check the checkout total either way.

Small, priced extras. A ¥20 parcel rehearsal tells you the exact freight before you pay it. Extra detail photos cost ¥1 each, a before-and-after parcel photo ¥5, storage beyond 90 days ¥10 per item per month. Few agents put all of these on one public price list.

A public estimator with real line codes. Anyone can price a parcel without an account, and the results name each line, its transit range and its volumetric divisor. That is how we could test fourteen countries in an afternoon.

Generous storage and a first-parcel coupon pack. Ninety free days covers slow sellers, and new accounts get a coupon pack aimed at the first parcel.

Jobs a different agent handles better than Whalebuy

There are good reasons to choose someone else, or to start small with Whalebuy.

  • You want to see the community before you pay. The homepage advertises a Discord with a members-only spreadsheet and a $4.99 new-user section, but we could not find a public invite link on any page we read. If peer reports matter to you, an agent with an open community is the safer first try.
  • You want consistent answers. Two help pages give the PayPal top-up fee as 4.5% and 3.7%. Test articles remain visible in the help centre. None of this is fatal; it does mean you should confirm details in the support chat.
  • You ship mostly batteries, liquids or cosmetics. These are limited items, and the line list shrinks with them. Ask support before buying, and compare with an agent whose estimator shows more lines for your country.
  • You need storage longer than six months. Whalebuy's paid extension stops at six months in total.
  • You want a long-running video track record. The official channel posted seventeen short videos in August 2026 and nothing after that up to October 22.

When to use another agent, then, comes down to fit: the same item can be cheaper or safer elsewhere because of a line or a rule, not because of a slogan. How other agents compare in general

Why this spreadsheet, and how it is maintained

Why this spreadsheet, out of the many Whalebuy lists that exist? What we do differently is mostly about the parts after the product card. Every one of the sixteen aisles carries a note on the shipping issue that hits that kind of item, plus four narrower searches. The guide covers all nine stops with Whalebuy's own screenshots and six of its videos, and two further pages go through parcels and after-sales in detail. Every price and fee has the date we read it, and where Whalebuy's own pages disagree, you get both numbers.

How this list is kept: outbound links are requested before each edition and removed when they fail, dead links on product cards are replaced when we find them, and the date at the top of each page changes only when its facts were checked again. We do not rank agents, take payment for placement, or hold a Whalebuy invite code. The test we suggest for any spreadsheet site applies to this one too; it is on the choosing page.
