Other shopping agents: service types, comparison points, switching
No rankings here. The service types you will meet, the points worth comparing, and what to settle before moving from one agent to another.
Checked October 22, 2026Agents grouped by the job each one actually does
Whalebuy is one of many shopping agents serving buyers of Taobao, 1688 and Weidian goods, and it helps to see the field as a set of service types rather than a list of brands. Most agents, Whalebuy included, offer three: a full shopping-agent order where they buy for you, forwarding where you buy and they only receive and ship, and a manual order form for listings their system cannot read. Some agents specialise in one of these; most bundle all three under different menu names.
There is also a quieter fact about the industry. Many agent websites run on shared white-label software, which is why their order screens, status names and even help articles look alike. Whalebuy's help centre shows this too: a few articles still carry wording, and in places leftover names and images, from other sites built on the same system. It does not make an agent worse, but it does mean that two agents with similar screens can still differ in the parts that matter, which are prices, lines and how people handle problems.

What to compare across agents
If you are weighing alternatives to Whalebuy, compare on things that are written down and dated. Brand reputation moves faster than any guide can track, so we do not rank agents; the list below is what we would check, in order of how much money it usually moves.
| What to compare | Where to find it | Whalebuy, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Freight for your weight and country | Public estimator | $36.01 for 1 kg to the US, cheapest line |
| Purchasing or service fee | Fee page | None in the formula; extras priced separately |
| Top-up fees | Payment pages | PayPal 4.5% or 3.7% plus $0.30 (two pages) |
| Free storage and extension | Storage page | 90 days; extension to six months at ¥10 per item per month |
| Free photos and paid extras | Inspection pages | About three free; ¥1 detailed photos |
| Claim windows | Compensation page | 7 days after delivery or 45 after dispatch |
| Community you can read first | Homepage, footer | Discord advertised, no public invite found |
Two of these are easy to test in an evening. Price the same weight to your own address on two agents' estimators and note the cheapest line and the number of lines offered. Then read each one's storage page and compensation page, and see which answers your questions without an account. The agent that publishes more is not always cheaper, but it is easier to hold to account. How to judge an agent before paying
Switching agents without losing what you paid for
Buyers switch agents for a handful of concrete reasons: a line their country needs is missing or full, a restricted item shrinks the list too far, a fee change tips the sums, or a problem order was handled badly. If that happens, two practical points. Items already stored at one agent cannot be moved to another agent's warehouse without shipping them domestically, which costs time and freight; finish or cancel what is in storage first. And coupons and points are tied to the account that earned them, so spend them before you go.
The opposite move is common too. Many buyers keep one main agent and try a second for a single line or category. That is a reasonable way to learn, and a small first order is the cheapest test of any agent, Whalebuy included.
