Picking the right listing and dodging the usual first-order mistakes
Five checks on the listing, the fields on Whalebuy's product page that tell you about weight, and the errors Whalebuy says it sees most.
Checked October 22, 2026Five listing checks, costliest mistake first
Judging a listing before you order takes five checks, in the order that saves the most money. Most first-order regrets trace back to one of them, and every one can be done from the product page alone.

The order matters. A wrong option (check 1) is the costliest mistake because it often falls outside the return rules once the item is opened. Sizing (check 2) comes next because a wrong size is a return with freight on you. Materials (check 3) decide which lines can carry the parcel, which affects every other item in it. Bulk (check 4) is about freight, and returns (check 5) about what you can still undo.
Reading Whalebuy's own product page
Whalebuy's product page gives you more than the store page does, if you know where to look. The "Platform direct sourcing" box shows the route from the factory or store to the warehouse with an estimated arrival date and the domestic shipping cost. "Purchase History" shows an estimated weight and estimated dimensions when someone has bought the item before; when it reads "-", nobody has, and you are the first to find out how heavy it is. The message field takes instructions the option menu cannot hold.
Choosing a product with that information means asking whether it fits your parcel as well as your taste. A 1.2 kg boxed item can push a 1.8 kg parcel into the next price step; the same item without its box may not.

Slip-ups that trip up a first-time buyer
Whalebuy's first-order guide lists the mistakes it sees most, and they line up with what goes wrong in practice. Avoid these and most orders run clean.
- Picking an option from the product image alone, without reading the option name.
- Assuming the item payment includes international shipping. It never does; the confirmation screen says so.
- Ignoring volumetric weight on bulky items.
- Building a parcel before looking at the QC photos.
- Treating the estimator's number as the final freight.
- Letting a coupon expire before the parcel is submitted.
Things to watch beyond that list: prohibited goods (tobacco, alcohol, contraband) are refused; knives, lighters, magnets, seeds and some foods are restricted; liquids, creams, powders, cosmetics and medicine are limited and need a word with support before you buy. Branded goods are listed by Whalebuy among items some customs offices treat strictly, and its anti-counterfeiting policy allows it to decline orders and suspend accounts. Before you pay, also check that the shipping address on the confirmation page is your overseas one; it is stored for the parcel stage.
